DRAW worked the Hampton Township School District in a visioning process focused on transformative opportunities within the footprint of their existing high school. In addition to reorienting the building entry to improve access and security, the study identified academic focus areas in engineering and design, sciences, media and communication, physical and mental wellness, and performing arts. The redesign of these focus areas create next Century Learning Environments supporting design thinking, flexibility, collaboration,
research, and project-based curriculum.
Navigating the challenges of the global pandemic, the High School’s renovation/addition project proceeded in a phased approach with initial focus on the construction of a new media center and site development to correct safety, security, and circulation issues. Recently completed, the new media center functions as the keystone to the academic program, strategically located in a former courtyard in the heart of the academic wing. The media center addition includes flexible classrooms, a library focused on research and project development, and both formal and informal spaces for socialization and collaboration.
