The house was an 1880's terrace house, on an elevated location overlooking London, but conversely few windows to afford a view. The house had been the victim of much unsympathetic alteration over the years removing much of the internal logic of the layout.
As is typical of many terrace houses in the area, the house had moved down the slope and had suffered structurally over the years. The rear extension was beyond repair and was demolished to make way for a new extension with better views. The house was also extended at roof level to form a gym area and the kitchen enlarged into the garden. The garden was reduced in level to provide better access from the kitchen. The ground floor was lowered to provide better ceiling heights. The house was completed with modern bathrooms, kitchen and a new staircase to link the new floor and rear extension.
