Hamnhuset in Gothenburg is Sweden's first large residential block built to passive house standards. It is very well insulated and has district heating, solar panels and a heat recovery system. Hamnhuset was designed with high standards for indoor environmental quality and sustainable building materials.
Savings on energy costs for this passive house will cover the investment in low energy technology and solar panels (2.5% of total building cost) within the first year of occupation. Long life, sustainable building materials will also keep down the running costs.
Hamnhuset is part of the redevelopment of an industrial wharf in Gothenburg into a community with a university campus, workplaces and good public transport links to the city centre. Hamnhuset consists of rental accommodation to complement the owner occupied buildings around it.
