The first phase of this project, entitled ‘Planting Seeds’, proposes, not a formal solution, but a mechanism of experimentation for increased density and development. It capitalizes on four existing site and contextual conditions; isolation by transit infrastructure from the city fabric, an open edge condition between city and nature, extreme climate conditions, and soil and site contamination. The purpose of the second phase of this project is to demonstrate the validity, location and nature of an overpass connection -spanning the train tracks- between the city center and the Strandsonen area in Hamar. The challenge is hence to find an overpass solution that aids in the urban and landscape development of both sides, that addresses programmatic and infrastructural needs and that has inherent attraction, uses and activities that will provoke its use.
