Halo Brewery is Toronto's first 'open source' brewery and one of the newest additions to the Junction neighbourhood's growing craft brewery scene. All the beer recipes are posted to the Halo Brewery website for anyone to try their hand at brewing. The intent was to create a cozy taproom that continued this inclusive spirit, a place for both beer geeks from all over and locals to enjoy the innovative beer brewing just behind the bar.
Inspired by the chemistry and technology behind making beer, the comprehensive design for the taproom included custom furniture, wall finishes, light fixtures, and a bar.
A wood and steel wall 'wrapping' with geometric patterns defines the taproom as a distinct zone from the brewing area. The resulting space balances references to the industrial heritage of the neighbourhood with a welcoming and intimate atmosphere.
Fabrication was handled by Maker Industries and CNC Cutting, who realized thoughtfully considered details and found creative ways to elevate humble materials such as birch plywood and raw steel. In collaboration with the designer, lighting and furniture was fabricated by Dian Carlo of Sodi Designs.
