This house is located in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture in Japan.
This project is a renovation of two-story wooden building.
The client says the house in which their lived abroad was very comfortable due to a completed heating system.
Therefore they were surprised at cold in the house when they came back to previous house in Japan after the life abroad.
In addition to changes in their life, inferior ventilation and brightness were regarded as factors to decide renovate their house.
This lot is situated on a northeastern corner of the property, which means this house has favorable conditions of bright room with lots of morning sunlight.
Also, there is awesome cherry tree over the northeastern road as if the tree welcomes people in this residential area.
The key point at renovations is a structure.
It is ideal method to strengthen bearing of structure with slight remodeling in well balance.
We therefore offer great change in the life, keeping the house in the current condition.
Then, a tool for underwater viewing runs through my head, which called “Hakomegane” in Japanese. (a boxed water glass in English)
By viewing through Hakomegane, we can see an unimaginable amazing view in the sea or river.
This means one factor allows us to see completely different world in one thing.
Accordingly, we inserted wooden boxes and glass windows that are reminiscent of Hakomegane on northeast and south side of current house.
In this insertion, we decided to leave walls and pillars as they are, which is underlying structure of current house.
As a result, inserted Hakomegane takes the roll of tube which allows sunlight come in interior of the house.
The boxes can be bearing walls and horizontal bearing floors of the construction by itself.
These boxes also provide a large open ceiling space between the first floor and the second floor.
This space contributes to heat the entire house by a heat-accumulating heater installed in the area.
Hakomegane also give us excellent landscape, especially a view of big cherry tree on the Northeastern road from the dining room.
Thanks to insertion the element ”Hakomegane”, the house has new influence on the resident despite the same location.
