This project was commissioned by the municipality of Hadath, a dense residential area located in the southern suburb of Beirut.
The site is characterized by the presence of an informal football field defining a plateau situated at approximately 5m above the main street level. It constitutes a large un-built green space in an expanding and dense city. The main field constitutes a breathing space secluded from the main road (old Saida road), an advantage given by the topography of the site.
Our intervention is articulated around the below main objectives:
- Placing the required main outdoor field on the natural ground
- Reduce the built footprint to the minimum
- Openness and flexibility
- A system of multiple circulations
The main outdoor filed is not only a sports facility but also an important venue for various cultural and social events, a vaste and generous public space. In addition to the eastern and western bleachers, an elevated promenade encircles the field. This ring enhances the notions of solidarity and cohesion.
