H-house [House of running about] was built in residential area of Itoshima city in Fukuoka. North side of the site is a road and three other sides are adjacent to other residences. This house is for a cheerful family of four: husband, wife, a boy and a girl. So my main concept is to create atmosphere for children playing cheerfully and adults teaching easily.
I did not set an opening on north side of house faced to road and designed differences in level of 5 facades using black and white color. This emphasizes appearance’s modern and stylish feeling. Artificial lights will make this feeling stronger in night.
When you enter the house you can experience sense of rhythm which is consist of random colorful slits on a white wall in living room and dining room. There are also slits on display shelf of accessory so that children could hide and peek through these holes. There is a study corner of families connected with the atrium and living upping stairs from the living room. This is the third communication place after living room and dining room. Also it can be used as children’ education place. Even if mother is in the kitchen, children studying here can also keep in touch with mother.
Next to living room and dining room, there is terrace balcony wrapped in the wall of this house protecting privacy of this family. There are also swing and free climbing equipment for children playing. This terrace balcony not only protects privacy but also brings wind and light into house. Wife can see children playing happily even if she is cooking in the kitchen. So the terrace balcony, living room and dining room is a whole one.
I hope children can run about in the house and terrace balcony happily and healthily when growing up.
