Contemporary architecture is no longer just the building style of the present day, but a result of many influences that continuously shape our perception of what will define the times we live in. The closest influence is the Modern Style that featured clean lines with an emphasis on function. The design of this home took all of these notions into consideration and were inspired by the combined efforts of all of the individuals on our design team. We came up with a simple concept that drove the design every step of the process: A simple folding plane that is intersected by a contrasting vertical mass in a manner that creates impressive views to the ocean. In the same way that origami studies the implication of each fold, the design of the home studies the ambiguities of how that folding plane generates private and public spaces. The vertical mass not only contrasts the light playfulness of the folding plane, but it also carries all the vertical circulation as well as establishing a very strong structural element. Natural light enhances all of the living spaces blurring the distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces. The architecture of this home becomes an interactive form of art, one that you can walk through, discover, and embrace.
