“Gul two” is the name given by id&@le concepts to their new glowing kinetic sculpture with the shape of a giant flower. The stainless steel piece stands majestic in its 260 cm. of height while its leaves (in sizes ranging from 70 to 120 cm) span to a maximum overall diameter of 240 cm. A geometrically poetic steel twisting stem twirls upwards holding up a flower whose bright red & lime green corolla (with 6 x 30 cm petals) gleams in its 90 cm of diameter. Each petal is equipped with a 10x5 cm solar panel, their sequence forms a central crown which absorbs light during the day and accumulates energy, storing it in a hidden 4 watts battery back up held within the calyx. The accumulated energy generated by such photovoltaic solar panels is emitted at night as it powers a colorful poem of LED shades. If “Gul two” looks amazing during day hours, its time to shine is, definitely, when darkness fills the sky. As soon as it senses darkness its pistils, stamens & filaments (31 + 1 polycarbonate transparent tubular rods - ranging in lengths from 12 to 38 cm) begin to light up bright and glow. At night “Gul two” performs its LED rainbow magic, painting a spectrum of colors on the open corolla. Flickering, glaring, glowing, illuminating and casting outright bright a colorful concert of sapphire, emerald, ruby, rhodochrosite, violet, indigo and opal notes.Conceived + designed by id&@le concepts’ ADA, “Gul two” was built with the help of sculptor C Basanta* and thanks to the assistance of J., IMP, VDA & DP*.“Gul 2” was recently on display at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE 2010) within Elemental Gardens’ pavilion and made its way around the virtual world thanks to a number of web design magazines.
