Gugu Meze is a post modern restaurant located in the center of Athens in the area of Kolonaki. The name came out from the first letters of the name of the owner (GuGusis) and the first letters of the greek word Mezedopoleion , witch means in greek “tradiotional tavern”.
The design was to create a funny trend restaurant with cooking products (like tomatoes salt et) on the walls to give the impression of an old fashioned grocery.
Especially designed lights are placed on the ceiling , and white wooden surfaced have covered the walls to give the impression of a clean store and also to have a clear background for the multicolored products.
Except of the ground floor, the main kitchen and the rest rooms are located in the basement , and the same stair that leads to the basement , is also being used to access the 1st floor. The walls around of the stairs are covered with original old newspapers. Over the newspaper covers, are placed old fashioned wooden frames from old paintings.
The floor is separated in 2 areas. The main area of the floor is made of wood and the rest of the floor have been covered with 3 colored ceramic tiles. The same tiles in a smaller size have been placed also to the columns of the restaurant and also on the top of the Bar.
