GH-114097890 Concept Description
Conceptual solutions
The image of the building, its three-dimensional solution Guggenheim Museum - is the result of wide research, urban development and planning decisions and artistic conception dictated by personal associations connected with inspiration made by Helsinki and Finland. The shape of the building resembles something between a giant sharp-nosed shoes Leningrad Cowboys films of Aki Kaurismäki and ship from South Harbor. It resembles docked ship moored to the pier for a while, or left on the bank cowboy boots who sailed away to (America, Russia?)
Cityscape
Construction of a building on the site will create one more quarter of the public buildings in the same row with the terminals Makasiini Terminal and the Olympia Terminal.
Previously opened fronts of the street Laivasillankatu to the harbor will go to the second development plan. One of the main problems - close historical buildings minimally. To create a building with a sloping verticals, that makes an interesting silhouette of the museum building. We have the same with the park Tahtitornin vuori Park - active silhouette does not close the view of the South Harbor with continuous massive facade, but only its vertical volumes.
On the site there are all the technical, fire access to the building (on the competitive task). It is also possible to access to the integrated total Makasiini Terminal on the south side of the site. The project has the most small built-up area for the organization of courts and public open spaces. These areas can also be used for the exhibition of art objects, performances and concerts. Along the Laivasillankatu street by section we can expand the sidewalk and cycling area. The total area of civic realm - 5200m2. Along the western facade of the museum we organize transport routes to the port.
Three-dimensional solution
Conceptual decision was dictated by the design of the building of the two volumes, which is located at the intersection of the atrium. During the formation of the museum building there were analyzed options for the location of the vertical volume-dominant to the minimally block the view from the park to the South Harbor (see Diagram 1) mullet volumes overlap with spiers of Helsinki cathedrals.
In the fold-overlapping - lights, lighting exhibition facilities with dispersed sunlight.
Planning decisions
The building has several entrances. The main input (A) - for visitors from the Market Square. From it we get to the lobby of the museum, then we can see groups of rooms: Visitor Services, Multi-purpose Zone, Museum and Design Store, Lounge-bar, Exhibition Galleries, Programs and Events.
The second input (B) leads directly to a group of premises «Programs and Events» lobby.
Visitors can enter the Museum and Design Store, Lounge-bar, Restorant at the time when the museum is not working. For this purpose we made a separate entrance to a group of premises «Programs and Events». There are additional entrances to offices, group rooms «Collections Storage and Management», technical rooms, the kitchen of the restaurant.
The first floor of the museum is located at an altitude of 3.1, 3.7.
Top floor (premises of the restaurant) is located at an altitude of 24.2.
The restaurant opens onto a summer terrace. Also on the fourth floor it has an access to the types of open area.
Sustainability/Feasibility:
The project focuses on the concept of sustainable development.
We reasoned out application of technology and materials to the construction phase and operation to prevent significant emissions of CO2 into the environment.
High-performance heat pump large capacity heat pump to heat the building will allow the museum completely. He picks up heat from the water and gives it to the external environment.
It will provide heating, air conditioning and hot water museum. Source of electricity - solar photovoltaic power plant.
Folded elements - aluminum fins minimize overheating premises sun in the summer.
The windows have energy efficient double glazing
It is proposed to apply the concrete re-use RC and recycled steel reinforcement in concrete structures.
The building is faced with wooden cladding boards.
The use of prestressed concrete beams (reduce the use of concrete by 10-15%)
Farms, which cover large spans - from glulam.
