Success in Guggenheim competition to a local entry by helsinkizurich – Sotamaa – Arkitekturum:
Helsinkizurich, Ateljé Sotamaa and Arkitekturum have together been successful in the Guggenheim Helsinki architecture competition. Their entry has received an honorary mention in the competition, which had a record number of entries – 1715. The proposal, ”Kissing Helsinki”, is therefore the most successful locally based entry in the Guggenheim competition.
The Guggenheim Helsinki design competition is searching for designs for an art museum in the Southern Harbour area of Helsinki. The competition has been organised by the international Solomon R. Guggenheim foundation.
The entry ”Kissing Helsinki" is based on a new kind of concept of an art museum as a social forum. The public and the city become active authors and producers of art. The central space of the museum has been reserved for this interaction. Also the formal language of the building supports the merging of the building and its environment.
”Kissing Helsinki” and the other best succeeded entries in the Guggenheim Helsinki competition are displayed in Kunsthalle Helsinki from the 25th of April to the 16th May.
