GH-78240545 Part A
Concept description
The project is very strongly connected with the environment through the light and the states of the matter interpretable both as a representation of the landscape (see table 01) that like museum tipology as such. In this sense, design and landscape are united by the coincidence of the conceptual framework that governs them.
Infact, light is a strong characteristic of a place, even more so than this, but also a fundamental element of the visual arts. The project decompose the light both incoming and outgoing, respectively, in representation of the landscape and art.
During the sun hours a special cover made up of prisms welcomes the incoming light and projecting breaks it down in its basic colors in the circulation tunnel. At the same time the exhibition spaces gets a uniform white light distributed by the prisms themselves the coverage of which, in this part, is opaque and oriented so that only allow the entry of indirect light. In the darkness hours, the artificial light coming out from inside of the exhibition gallery and always through the prism is decomposed into its basic colors and projected to outside. From inside to outside and from outside and the outside to inside.
Proposal/urban structure at Eteläsatama
Finland, Helsinki, and the competition place can be described as a homogeneous mix of urban, green spaces and water. Therefore have the same "chemical composition", which can also be seen as three different states of space and we can tell same thing for the 3 main functions of the program:
solid state: the urban environment, with its defined and specific spaces ► ancillary functions like retail, dining, offices, etc. ..
liquid: water, with functional flexibility but in defined space ► exhibition galleries;
gaseous state: the green areas both indefinite and flexible ► circulation and collateral functions.
These functional similarities are also reflected on functional distribution and architectural composition, creating a strong link between context and project. The "solid space", for example, is built with traditional technology revisited that best suits the climatic conditions and the functions that must accommodate. In this sense, the urban aggregate of the proposal represent the past and the future.
Feasibility
The exhibition area has been designed as a ring with a panoramic circulation facing the landscape long all the perimeter connected with access and the other functions. In this way, the exhibition spaces may be organized in different spaces / paths, also independent, that occupy the space completely or partially while remaining accessible and connected to the other functions.
Sustainability
the "solid space" is designed as a traditional wooden buildings with few openings whose structure is also insulation and finish.
the " liquid space" has a cover made of prisms (structural Plexiglas ) filled with antifreeze solution colorless and ecological to naturally keeps temperatures different from the external environment and it's the source for a heat pump system.
The "gaseous space" not require a special microclimate; conceptually it's an open area.
