GU house is the result of the synthesis between American dwelling back in the ’80s and the contemporary one. The project is featured by an architectural language in facade due to its condition of the pre-existing row house. Within, a different concept is defined, cleaner and slighter, which enables natural light access through its inner courtyard and zenithal lightning.
In its way in, the fixed point plays several functions; to visually connect two spaces (living and dining room) by a dry garden that is, likewise, illuminated by zenithal light. The foregoing generates a monolithic volume that is able to break the horizontal view, which is perceived in the space. It, therefore, possesses a noteworthy hierarchical unit. From there, other spaces are brought forth such as the social restroom, a wardrobe that goes alongside the dining room, and a study on the second floor.
Thanks to its distribution on the first floor, the spaces get to be more versatile and adaptable in order for this approach to notice the social areas as a whole unit. The aspect of verticality in this project is crucial so as to develop greater comfort due to the fact that the double-tall condition surrounds and incorporates the dwelling. Having shadows and light through the pergola, another much more dynamic and bodacious view is generated not only for the social areas but also for the chambers on the second floor.
Likewise, the transition between the first and second floors occurs because of skylights. The light is projected among white walls, thus providing a notable amount of natural lighting to the hall and the study from the second floor. From the hall on, the private area distribution is completely cleared.
