We were asked to design a bedroom for a little girl who was about to be born.
We immediately thought about the room as the place where she would grow up to become a woman.
The project therefore aims to change over time. This was possible because each element of the room was custom designed and built, allowing in the future, the subtraction, addition or replacement of various elements of the room (baby bed, changing table, drawers, etc).
The room is located at the end of a long corridor, a heavy marked line in a traditionally styled house.
The room accentuate the long corridor all the way into the room, as it becomes a promenade going around a molded white monolith.
The white monolith becomes the room itself, hosting all the functions needed, welcoming also some moments, represented by the evocative gesture of the engraving.
The engravings reveal the material used for the monolith, the wood, in its uniqueness, its signs of aging, its imperfection and its suggestive and educational nature.
The niches have different colors to present different functions and sensations:
The elegance of the black that accompanies the act of getting dressed and sit;
The concentration of the warm honey color that brings focus while studying;
Finally, the serenity of the natural birch color that favors calmness before falling asleep.
The three niches, through their depth, create a connection between all parts of the room, creating perspectives that make the project a whole.
We believe this room represents the necessary time to reflect about the complexity of architecture.
A moment that becomes a “memento”, by educating us on nature’s work, through its materials and the man’s work, who tries to compose them.
It is an occasion to ask ourselves new questions and try to understand the influence that space, design, materials, and colors have in our life and in the different stages of our life.
