Rooted in its local context through both its siting and its durable materials, the new school complex plays an urban role by clarifying and protecting outdoor spaces. At the same time, it opens generously toward the city and the surrounding landscape.
Referencing the town’s artisanal pottery heritage, the contemporary façades and articulated volumes are clad in light terracotta brick. Along the streets, an alternation of large glazed openings and solid brick sections creates a harmonious composition.
Facing the courtyard, hollow terracotta bricks—assembled and suspended on stainless steel cables—unify the façades while shielding circulation areas from glare coming from the east and west. This system functions like a checkerboard of solid and void, providing excellent control of spatial ambiance. These circulation areas act as true thermal buffers (tempered in winter and cooling during warm periods), contributing to the building’s strong environmental performance.
