Grigore Vieru (February 14, 1935 – January 18, 2009) was a Moldavian poet and writer. He is mostly known for his poems and books for children. His poetry is characterized by vivid natural scenery, patriotism, as well as a venerated image of the sacred mother. Vieru was one of the major writers in contemporary Romanian language literature. The spatial composition of the monument of Grigore Vieru is proposed to be located on the central axis of the city: Government Palace => The Cathedral => Grigore Vieru Boulevard. It is positioned at the end of the Grigore Vieru boulevard at the intersection with Tudor Vladimirescu street . The sculpture composition will play as a visual dominant at the G.Vieru bd. and the city's image. The modern architecture of this composition is highlighted by using simple shapes and volumes, arranged in deconstructivism. The sculpture is created from three main elements of metal: the main element, reaching 45-50 m, symbolizing the book; the small element, of 33 m tall, symbolizing the pen; and pedestrian access bridge, which ascends the reader to spiritual values, around the other two elements. Construction is proposed to be made of metal supporting structure covered with steel. The bridge structure is to be made of metal, coated with copper. Spatial planning involves organizing passive recreation areas near the monument - paths, benches, fountain. Pedestrian access bridge is planned to be created above T. Vladimirescu street, thus providing access without impeding the movement of transport.
