GREY Group selected 200 5th Avenue for their new headquarters. The landmark building recently underwent extensive renovations, also designed by STUDIOS, and has transformed into class-A office space. This well-established and innovative marketing firm challenged STUDIOS with designing a space that integrates the impressive history of the agency and promotes their edgy and highly creative culture. The client chose to implement a 90:10 ratio of open/closed space, a radical change from their previous environment. STUDIOS designed open work areas for all employees, with closed spaces for conference teaming areas and breakout rooms. To promote the collaborative work-style at Grey, STUDIOS designed a sizable town hall center for company-wide meetings and events, and a large space with food service, for the firm’s weekly social gathering for all employees to discuss creative ideas. The facilities also include technologically sophisticated edit suites, full production, print production, and sound production studios.Grey wanted an industrial, loft style aesthetic, but it was also essential to address acoustical concerns, workplace density and flow. Creative engineering and lighting solutions were implemented to meet these challenges. Throughout the space, the design intent was to satisfy the individual needs of the creative and production groups, while providing a means for strong collaboration between them.
