In this neighbourhood of high value homes in the suburbs of Sevasi, Baroda, 26 homes are arranged around a centrally located common plot and clubhouse. The central open plot maintains continuous visual connectivity across the site.
The unit was designed on overlapping straight and diagonal grids, effectively organizing the internal spaces and volumes to create courts, sit-out spaces and large sheltered openings that bring in ample light and ventilation deep into the house while also maintaining privacy and giving an impression of seamless spaces interspersing with landscape. The diagonal orientation of the units creates a large garden at the rear into which all living spaces overlook. Most exterior surfaces and frames are treated with white stone-crete plaster while solid wall masses in exposed brick masonry emphasize the large blank surfaces. This interplay of surfaces with contrasting finishes creates an interesting imagery on the outside.
The clubhouse, also planned on overlapping grids, is spread over two levels -ground and basement. The entrance opens up into a large open space covered by a space frame. This leads to the swimming pool, located partly within the frame of the building, and the lawns and tennis court beyond.
The overlapping of grids and angular orientation, while creating interesting intersections of surfaces and frames, also assists in increasing privacy through the creation of sheltered corners and large openings at an angle to direct viewing. The use of diagonal component in the design grid at all levels of planning in the site and buildings also make the spaces seem expansive.
