This was a competition entry to re-design a rest stop in the Central Valley region of California along Route 99 as a sustainable project. The emphasis on rest and refreshment is manifest in individual private toilet stalls designed to maximize passive cooling and exhaust, connected by a public covered walkway. It is designed to be self sufficient with solar powerand an on-site "living machine" water treatment facility. The design also highlights local natural features such as "vernal pools" of wildflowers and grasses.
