Greenlight Bookstore is an independently owned bookstore that occupies a busy stretch of Fulton Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The plan of the space was an awkward triangle that gave a large amount of store front display space but created limited square footage. There was also a large air shaft cutting through the center of the space.
In order to emphasize the visual width of the store, the design turned the air shaft into a structural white object with arched tops that echo the arched vintage storefront windows.
Uplighting above the shelves emphasize the ceiling height and provide a visually calming area in contrast to the colorful books. Playful lighting spheres of different sizes emphasize areas of interest including the cash wrap and children's section.
