Set along the terraced slopes of the Ayung River in Sibang, Bali, Green Village is a master-planned community of eight dramatically unique homes. Each villa is custom designed, rigorously engineered, and hand constructed to exemplify the intrinsic versatility of bamboo. The overall concept is to create beautiful living spaces that embody sustainability without sacrificing luxury, comfort or style.
According to Elora Hardy, creative director of the Ibuku design team, “Green Village has redefined the potential of sustainable materials. It is a place where people connect with nature. We build lightly on the land. With very few resources or attention a bamboo shoot can become a structural column within three years, and that house can stand strong for a lifetime. The care we put into designing the homes and the skill of the local architects and craftsmen is a statement about the potential for human innovation and ingenuity.”
Within walking distance of the Green School, the architectural innovations and structural vocabulary are an extension of the sustainable principles and artisanal craftsmanship already employed on the world famous campus. Each home is commissioned and is therefore designed specifically for the client, negotiating the natural context and terracing of the site. A percentage of every villa sold is contributed to Green School’s Balinese Student Scholarship Fund.
