Berlin, Moabit West set itself a goal: When developing the new
concept for urban construction and regional planning of the biggest
inner-city industrial area in neighbourhood of residential areas in the
years 2012 and 2013, the main focus will be put to sustainable climate
protection. In close cooperation with locals (commercial and
industrial enterprises, property owners and residents) the potential
for this ambitious goal will be examined, appropriate measures will be
considered and the to-be developed plan will be put into action.
In order to reach this goal the urban construction and regional
planning concept “Green Moabit” will be developed by SUSTAINUM, an
Institute for Sustainable Economies. This concept will focus on a
network between local actors, especially in terms of ecological and
economic synergies in the fields of energy, water, waste management and
recycling, logistics, public transport, traffic and mobility
management. Emphasis will also be put on turning municipal areas into
areas adjusted to the local climatical conditions in order to set an
example for future constructions. Also, the various facets of traffic
will be examined.
The goal of this concept is to encourage a sustainable
development of Moabit West into a liveable and future-compliant
industrial estate that deserves the title “Green Moabit”. The
process of developing this master plan is divided into two steps:
First, an analysis of the potential will be worked out (during the first
half of the year 2012), then a concept and the plan of action for
local government as well as for companies will be presented and
implemented (start: summer 2012, end: 2013). SUSTAINUM has been engaged to develop the concept “Green Moabit” in cooperation with its partners that are each specialized in different areas.
