Green Court Residences
Unique façade design in Budapest’s condominium architecture
The Green Court Residences is an unique apartment building unit in Budapest’s condominium architecture because of its volume and façade formulation. The architects designed the building based on elegancy and generosity required by the Client, which is most noticable by the moderate color-use, yet exciting façade geometry. The façade’s character is created by the balconies’ zigzag geometry. The balcony slabs and balustrades protrude and are set back the same way in opposite directions on the different floors, creating a rhytmically changing surface.
Generally, it isn’t easy to formulate balconies not shading each other too much, therefore the architectural solution can create not only an impressive, varying appearance, but can increase the comfort of the inhabitants. The balustrades’ formulation also reflects this sensitive question: using a rod system and optimising the rods’ density enables view-out, but provides covering for privacy.
During the façade design the building’s volume formulation was an exciting challenge at the corners of the plot. The irregular-shaped site required a beveled and a sharp corner. At these points the continuity of the façade could be sustained by turning the zigzag shape consequently here. A design tool was to create an apartment here on each floor, this way the balconies needn’t be broken, which would have caused a brake in the regular shape of the façade.
As a result each apartment has a balcony, this way the flats on the upper floors also have connection to the external environment, which is a top value in the urban environment. The building unit is open, communicates outwards, can be accessed through different directions, yet has an invitating character. Inline with the urban planning concept, the building surrounds an interior courtyard, which also communicates with the neighbouring park.
