The Grassland Pavilion, built in 2023 for the Poonehzar Rural Hotel festival, was a basic outdoor spot for gatherings. It blended aspects of land art and installation techniques.
Building upon our previous contextual knowledge and the ongoing landscape enhancement project - designing Rural Hotel and Poonezar Farm - the intervention was the product of a short journey by Shid Architects to a festival, an event we were invited by the land owner to suggest a place for gathering on the sidelines of the event area. Every summer, the grass in the meadow is pruned, leaving behind small piles of dry grass as waste. Considering this as an opportunity, we used these piles to make an iconic temporary spot for people to come together and enjoy each other's company on an evening during the event. The design aimed to evoke a magical outdoor setting, a temporary place to sit and gather together while focusing on natural elements.
To achieve this, the process commenced with drawing with grass on the ground. We gathered the small grass piles into one and shaped them into a moon-like figure. Using spherical lights, we installed a temporary installation to enhance the magical experience of light in nature at night. A sitting area was set up using three pieces of timber. In the grassland, it looked like a quick, hand-drawn sketch on the ground, impromptu, temporary and indefinite. The Grassland Pavilion was designed and created in only one day by Shid Architects. After the festival ended, the spherical lights were collected, and the autumn wind slowly blew away their impact on the land. Soon after, the space turned into a memory, marked by the laughter and conversations of the guests who shared it while celebrating the team `s work in the ever-changing moments of life.
