This 8,200 square foot house is located on a four acre parcel of farming land owned and operated by a family whose heritage and abundance has been cultivated from this place. The clients, a family of four, are stewards of an orchard, maintain a business from its productivity, and raise a family all centered within and around this live/work residence.
Located in Simi Valley, California the house is sited at the perimeter of an expansive tree grove. The edge of the residence transcribes a boundary on the land and acts as its environmental extension, maintaining a feeling that is both open and interrupted. This relationship is defined by the way the building is grounded, the overall height relationship with nature, the incorporation of light, and the dense nature of the grove that gives enclosure.
