The Startup Building of Graphisoft Park was constructed with 21st century needs in mind. The building’s strong character is supported by the glass facade graphics designed by S39 Hybrid Design, significantly contributing to the innovative spirit of Graphisoft Park.
The 27-hectare area located in Óbuda Island, Budapest formerly hosted a Gas Factory, which had supplied the area with energy between 1914-1984. After the factory had closed, some of the buildings were repurposed, parks were established. This is also where Graphisoft Park is located, with some of its buildings reminiscent of the gas facility, and some alluding to the software development character of the company.
One of these is the Startup Building. The architectural concept establishes a transparent building, covered by a glass facade of 1000 m². S39 Hybrid Design was contracted to design the graphic pattern of the surface and to monitor implementation. This is a complex, occasionally contradictory mission and a genuine challenge. The maximum 12% coverage limit had to be met, including the mandate that the pattern had to reflect the innovative spirit of Graphisoft Park, without being ostentatious.
The simplicity of form in the building and facade demanded the creation of more liberated, sensitive motifs. The design principle of the architectural software of Graphisoft SE Archicad appears on the surface: 3D objects can be seen, folded, interlaced geometric objects, alluding to the software’s precision.
Implementation technology was adapted to the infrastructure of the glass element manufacturer. The manufacturing process was monitored and the manufacturer was supported professionally. The material of the graphics is tempered ceramic paint employing direct screen printing onto the glass surfaces.
This emblematic glass facade reflects this age well. It is technologically precise and simple to implement in the Hungarian manufacturing sector falling in line with the spirit of Graphisoft Park.
