This house was create tor Mr.and Mrs,the second generation of Kawashima Ryokan to have lived in Toyotomi an Onsen town in the northernmost tip of Hokkaido.
The house is located in a tranquil residential area close to the Toyotomi Onsen.
It was important for Mr. and Mrs. that the house be designed to be welcoming for visiting friends and family.
The house was designed around the magnificent views over the Sarobethu Meadows through the gaps in the larch windbreaks. In the early evening the view is even more spectacular as the sun sets on the horizon.
The top floor is setback to soften the appearance of the building from the road.Horizontal and vertical detailing was used to add contrast to the facade of the building and white soffits were used to emphasis the roof outline.
