Located in Niseko, Hokkaido—an internationally known ski destination—Grand Tsuru is a residential development project situated a short two-minute drive from the ski slopes. The site lies along a quiet forest road and consists of three main plots, with a fourth plot dedicated to water infrastructure. The area is surrounded by native silver birch and oak trees.
The project draws on elements of Japanese architectural tradition and natural materials. The name Grand Tsuru (meaning "crane" in Japanese) references the sloped roofs, which are designed to resemble the wings of a crane. The buildings incorporate extended eaves, vertical metal cladding, and wooden louvers, aiming to balance visual lightness with durability.
The architectural layout emphasizes low, horizontal rooflines that integrate into the surrounding forest environment. Exterior and interior design elements reflect a blend of vertical and horizontal features, creating continuity from the entrance through to the main living areas.
The development consists of three villas, each approximately 250 square meters across two floors. One of the villas features a mirrored design. Each unit includes a spacious living, dining, and kitchen area with a vaulted ceiling. All three bedrooms are ensuite, with the master bedroom including a private tiled bath. A centrally located staircase, lit by loft windows, connects the different levels of the skip floor design.
Grand Tsuru combines contemporary residential design with references to traditional Japanese architecture, aiming to provide a functional yet refined living environment within the natural setting of Niseko.
