Located in the leafy, historic Gramercy neighborhood, Gramercy Square entails the renovation of the former Cabrini Medical Center. Founded in 1892, the hospital had served the local community for a century, but in recent years sat vacant. In an aim to reinvent the site, the designers reorganized the layout. Three of the original structures – named The Tower, The Boutique, and The Prewar – have been preserved and renovated, and the fourth, The Modern, entails new construction.
Each building has its own architectural character, but all are connected by idyllic garden spaces and an expansive private amenities club.
The Tower, The Boutique, The Prewar and The Modern offer a variety of living spaces from charming garden homes to dramatic penthouses with soaring ceilings. Generous new windows throughout flood the apartments with natural light.
"Making hospital buildings hospitable for full-time residents required some major tweaks. Take the 1960s-era 17-story tower... Where the developer, under the guidance of Woods Bagot, replaced the tower’s beige bricks with cast stone, added bronze trim and cut larger windows."
