ContextThe Arneken Galerie expands the city-centre shopping facilities available in Hildesheim. Urban structures have been recreated, joined by new square and street situations. With a retail surface area of 28,000 square metres, the shopping centre was opened on 29 March 2012.
Planning concept
Illuminated columns, protruding signs, suspended signs and wall signs define the typology of the information elements in both indoor and
outdoor areas. The signs are complemented by three plans for the blind and partially sighted, located at the access points.
Design concept
The crossing point of the great east-west and north-south military roads formed the basis for the early trading centre of Hildesheim, where economic activity was already developing in the middle ages. The lined patterns on the individual information elements represent trading routes and inner city structures. A radiant green hue provides for an excellent effect at distance in the light-coloured architecture. A contemporary
font with soft forms was selected for the lettering, augmented by a pictogram system and large white arrows.
