The first stage of the project was carried out on top of a
structure in existence since the year 1972.
The lot’s surface area is 850 m2. The existing structure
had a surface area of approximately 550 m2, neoclassic style. Using the
structure as a base, a double height, central patio with pergolas was designed which
is the center of distribution for the house as well as the central
vestibule. The walls of this space
were designed at an angle to emphasize perspective. The finish is a light sand-colored smooth finish similar to
the acid-etched, cream-colored marble slabs on the floor. The finishing touch
is an aquarium measuring 3 meters by 1.5 meters tall.
From this space, off to the right, the dining room was
designed with a large sliding door that divides it from an exterior terrace
leading out to the garden. To the
left at 1.2 meters below level there is a water mirror accented by living area
windows as well as a reading and music room.
At the end of the vestibule there is what was a squash
court, a theatre room with twenty box-style seats on a slope for isoptic
reasons as well as an editing room. On this same floor there are a breakfast room and a kitchen
which share a view out onto the patio where several avian glass display cases
were designed.
The stairway leading to the upper level is divided by a
triangular wall finished off in cream-colored marble slabs. The landing is a large window with space
for birds. It has a small waterfall and a water mirror through
which the upper level study is illuminated and ventilated.
The stairway ends at the upper level at a vestibule where
the TV room is. The different bedooms are connected. The vestibule
is illuminated by a large conical dome and at one of its ends there is a
console finished with cactus sap hiding a stairway. This leads to
the third floor where there is a play room that has a beige-colored artificial cantilevered
concrete-stone that leaves a glass groove between the wall and itself.
The master bedroom has two large dressing rooms. One has a large vault that runs the
length and it has a strip that lights the master bathroom. The finishes in the bedrooms are dark
wooden floors, and on the walls and soffits there is a thin, smooth
sand-colored finish.
In 2002 the adjacent lot was acquired having a surface area
of 640 m2 and the second phase was planned to enlarge the house.
This expansion has a garage for 6 automobiles and a terrace
with an enclosed, finished floor which is at 1.50 metros
below the level of the existing garden.
Under the garage there is a gymnasium lit naturally through
an area of pergolas which faces out onto the garden. On the upper level a visitors’ suite was planned with a full
bath and a dressing room. It has a
bedroom that is virtually separated from the living room by a parchment screen.
This suite goes out onto a large
patio with a teak wood floor which is the cover of the parking area and is
connected to the garden terrace by a rolled laminate stairway built into a
curved wall joining the previous façade with the new one. This enlargement has the same finishes
as the first phase to maintain unity throughout the project.
