This modest house exudes a quiet elegance as it sits lightly on a sliver of a site. From the street, the house possesses an asymmetric dynamic assembly of solids and voids, and yet a measure of calm exists that balances the entire composition and creates a whole.
Since the site was extremely narrow, careful thought about placement of rooms, views, and usable sunny outdoor spaces was important. Also, views of Downtown Oakland and the San Francisco Bay beyond were possible on the top floor. Southern exposure was only found along the street.
Large sunny terraces with views were placed above the street level. Inside the house, a tall, skylight atrium with a bridge brings interest and daylight into the house interior
