A sensitive response was required in a very small site between two existing Marylebone town houses in central London. The site is in a conservation area and required in-depth conversations with the planning authority and a private planning company. The infill site although tight was designed to contain a single house, that would reference back to the surrounding houses in a more contemporary manner. The design included a large light well from the roof that drops down through the entire house into the basement creating axial views across each floor and flooding the plan with light, whilst also encouraging natural ventilation via a stack system and chilled slabs.
