Aichi Prefecture, Japan

YEAR
2005
SIZE
1000 sqft - 3000 sqft
This building is a rest station built for 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan.
Outside wall is all covered by glass and natural wool was filled inside of the wall as insulation. This insulation is translucent, so that in the day-time pale sunlight comes in, and in the night-time the building emerges as a paper lantern. The roof structure is steel truss covered by membrane. The membrane also has translucency.

At this rest station, a demonstration was carried out to prove the "Water Sprinkling Effect" in the presence of an extremely hydrophilic photocatalyst. The demonstration is part of a project entitled Research and Development of Construction Materials Using TiO2-Based Photocatalysts being implemented by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
