GIST is a research-oriented national university that focuses on the essential fields of applied science and engineering ranked seventh in term of citations per faculty member, according to England’s global university evaluation institute QS. The Institute takes a leading role in performing research and development in cooperation with industry sectors and is the first university in Korea to adopt an innovative system providing a comprehensive foundational science curriculum.
The new undergraduate campus master plan is for a 135,000 SM site including seven new buildings over 40,000 SM for an Education & Research Center, Experimental Research Classrooms, Student Union, Dormitory Residences, and new Central Plant. The new undergraduate campus design vision seeks to create a new image with intelligent sustainable design building features similar to those inspired by the University of California, Merced Campus with highly sophisticated energy management program as well as passive solar design elements. The dynamic relationship of buildings seeks to create a new order creating outdoor public areas for the new campus while respecting the traditional rectilinear relationship of classroom buildings.
