This newly completed house, conceived as a modern take on the traditional Japanese Minka, is set in the prestigious Ginto Hirafu development. Our goal with this residence was to honor Japanese architecture heritage by reinterpreting it in a way that offers more comfort and functionality, ensuring that this traditional architectural form remains alive and relevant.
In our modern version, we aimed to provide a more spacious and comfortable living experience: larger open-plan areas, shoji screens to create flexible compartments, and an all-around engawa (veranda or wrap around porch) that connects indoor and outdoor living spaces, allowing residents to fully enjoy the breathtaking views of Mount Yotei—the sacred mountain that faces the house.
We also integrated contemporary amenities such as a sauna, an onsen bath, multiple en-suite bedrooms, and a dedicated entertainment corner featuring a pool table, a cinema room, and a hidden whiskey bar. These features are designed to cater to different generations, ensuring the house becomes a place where family and friends can create lasting memories—not only on the ski slopes but, most importantly, in the intimacy and comfort of their home. Our aim was to craft a space that promotes togetherness and memorable moments, blending tradition with modern comforts in perfect harmony.
