For their new office located at the Westersingel in Rotterdam, the young econometrics office Gibbs wanted a fresh and unconventional interior for their working space. The design divides the space into different zones: a workspace that can accommodate eight workstations, a space separating cabinet, a long table that can be used for meetings, presentations and lunches, and a roof terrace furnished with a picnic table. The basis for the design represents a bar chart in a subtle way. The back wall, which stretches out over the full length of the room, is used as a backbone, the ribs are designed as bars. Each bar, made of wood used for scaffolding, has a unique design depending on its position in the space: the bars are not always straight but bend and come forward to give shape to storage space, cabinets, a wardrobe, tables and benches. Some of the bars walk across the ceiling, one lands on the other side of the room.
