The growing
percentage of old people in the overall population is confronting industrial
countries with unprecedented problems and calls for a change of attitudes to
the process of aging. Town planning, architecture and design can contribute to
a cultural reorientation in addressing aging process. The project examines how
traditional values in the approach to aging have become firmly established in
urban culture, city-planning, architectural concepts and spatial arrangements.
Alternatives for self-determined aging at the level of architecture and
neighborhood can be highlighted by analyzing best practices, trend research,
and daily routines. 7 different design concepts outline the beginning of a
debate.
