The artist Isa
Genzken was invited by Nicolaus Schafshausen, the
curator of the German Pavilion, to the Biennale di
Venezia 2007. Building on many years of cooperation on architectural projects
at a variety of scales, a concept for the exhibition and its structure was
jointly developed with the intention of coalescing the pavilion itself with
extraneous elements and artworks into a single sculptural entity. Mirrored
cabinets and walls were inserted to reflect orange scaffolding netting imported
from the USA as well
as the carefully positioned artworks. The
recipient can experience all of the different situations both individually and
simultaneously, thus according
them equal status whilst accepting their interplay as an intrinsic harmony.
