We designed a shared villa in Moto-Hakone.
The row of wooden gable-roofed, boarded-up buildings, with their entrances and exits offset slightly from the road, is reminiscent of the appearance of a roadside street in the past. The plan was created with a view appropriate to the natural beauty of Lake Ashi and Mt. Komagatake, as well as the area’s history as the gate town of Hakone Gongen.
The exterior walls are made of Japanese cedar, which changes in color and texture with age and gives the building a calm atmosphere. The interior is also designed with wood as the main material, and natural materials are used throughout to create a space with a soft warmth.
The lush green garden, visible from the living room and bedrooms, allows one to feel the changes in seasons and weather when enjoying outdoor barbecues, the hot spring facing the Hakoniwa garden, and outdoor air bathing with the private sauna. We hope you will feel the nature of Moto Hakone and the memory of the land through your stay.
