Georgina Blach Intermediate School is consistently one of California’s highest scoring public schools. Its facilities, however, were unimproved since their construction in 1958, 1962-63 and 1978. This project included complete infrastructure replacement, modernization of existing buildings and replacement of temporary structures with new construction. Although 50% modernization, the design has transformed the entire campus so thoroughly that the school community routinely refers to it as “our new school.” State-of-the-art labs, performing arts facilities, a library and a city/school joint-use gym have been developed. All buildings use daylighting and natural ventilation for low energy, healthy, stimulating surroundings.
