What makes the design of Generator Berlin Mitte so interesting is the constant parade of contrasting themes; old vs. new, bright vs. dark and moody, rough vs. smooth and sleek. The contemporary atmosphere and unpretentious style makes this hostel a comfortable, inviting and modern space that can be enjoyed by all.
Contrasting elements which can be seen through the partnering of rough wood panelling and open ceilings, simple furniture and mastic asphalt is paired with a mirrored ceiling and raw copper panels are set against black walls.
To create an authentic and locally inspired experience, Generator decided to embrace the city’s love of street art. London artist Luke Embden created a colourful mural and Thierry Noir found inspiration from the Berlin Wall Eastside Gallery when deciding to festoon the corridors with his famous ‘heads with big lips’. Artist Bella Leonard also collaborated with the Generator design team to fashion a distinctive crochet sculpture in the shape of Generator’s “G”.
In 2013 Ester Bruzkus from Ester Bruzkus Architects picked up the World Interior News Award in the hotels category for her work at Generator Berlin Mitte.
