MAISON DU CONSEIL GENERAL (General Council Building)
Saint-Marcellin | ISERE
The Maison du Conseil Général of the South Grésivaudan region in Saint-Marcellin, is part of the process the General Council of Isère launched in 2007 to bring territorial services to the department, with the creation of 13 buildings, one in each sector of Isère. The new equipment includes 70 public officials that were previously in four temporary locations in Southeast Grésivaudan.
The General Council building occupies three floors of wing A of the former tobacco factory in Saint-Marcellin and thus completes the administrative center already in operation.
Located at the rear of the ensemble, the entrance of the building needed to be to the scale of the institution it represents. A large wall-mounted timber frame rises above the square, indicating change and the name of the institution.
Behind the sun-breaks that stripe the inside of the frame, large windows give onto meeting rooms on the first floor and on the second floor the local councilors offices . On the ground floor, the lobby is generously sized to house temporary exhibitions relating the actions of the Maison du Conseil Général.
