HOUSE GELE LIS #5 IN THE HAGUE BY HOYT ARCHITECTS
The giant double height windows of this house overlook the landscape park of Delftse Hout. In one of the first sketches we made for this project it was already clear that view towards the large trees would be the main theme of the house.
Although the house is located in one of the largest and densest new suburbs of The Hague it is fully orientated to the green park giving it a much more secluded and green atmosphere as one would expect in such a place.
The house is designed for a busy family two parents and two daughters. The kids own the first floor and the parents have the second floor. On the second floor you can find besides the master bedroom a private bathroom, walk in closet and a small music room.
The ground floor is closed from the street but opens up to the water and the garden, part of the living room and kitchen are 6 meters high giving the house a very light and spacious feel.
Outside we used a mix of plaster, western red cedar and aluminum windows. The idea is that the façade is a projection of a folded sheet of wood. A bit similar to a model where you use one sheet of cardboard to make the façade and roof at the same time.
Special attention is given to the detail of wood in the corners.
This is the fifth house we built in this part of The Hague (De Bras)
