The Gateway Intermodal Transit Center, America’s largest intermodal transportation facility, links the LAMTA’s buses, long distance and commuter rail, light rail and subway system, together with a 3,000-car park-and-ride facility. Conceived of as the centerpiece of EE&K’s larger revitalization strategy for the 75-acre Alameda District, EE&K’s design for Gateway Center alludes to the grand civic character of the world’s great railway stations. The designs focuses on the multi-level Patsouras Plaza, creating a first-class environment for transit users, and a new address for four million square feet of class A office development.
