lahznimmo architects in association with ASPECT Studios have been successful in winning the University of New South Wales’ design competition to reshape the Gate 9 precinct at its Kensington Campus.
The reconfiguration of the Gate 9 precinct offers UNSW a once in a generation opportunity to create a safe, memorable, and seamless public realm, which elevates the visitor experience and the quality of urban space.
With the timely delivery of the High Street light rail stop by the New South Wales government, UNSW has the opportunity to create an open, people centric address, which removes fences and barriers and celebrates and invites engagement by the University with its surrounds.
A re-imagined Clancy Auditorium becomes the symbolic ‘church in the square’, a building seen and experienced in the round, which is the UNSW ‘home of Ceremony’ graduation as well as a backdrop on arrival to everyday university life. The new High Street address to UNSW will place Clancy as the centrepiece of the upper campus arrival experience.
