We envision Garrett Leight California Optical Brooklyn as a utilitarian space inspired by the contrasting, multifaceted cultural and urban landscape of New York.
The ongoing history of the store’s context, specifically histories of industry and craftsmanship, connects the legacy of the surrounding neighborhood to GLCO. To represent this idea we propose a store created from a palette of raw, utilitarian materials, namely wood, glass, metal, and tile.
Located on the corner of a busy intersection in Williamsburg the space contains a series of different elements, each unique and distinct, like a small city block. These elements functionally display product, provide atmosphere, and broadcast the GLCO brand. Their design takes core parts of the GLCO brand language and re-casts them to reflect the time and place of the new Brooklyn store.
