A simple, small, south facing extension at the rear of a weatherboard cottage in Melbourne for a young growing family, comprises of the main bathroom, laundry, kitchen and dining. Replacing the existing programmatic functions that occupies that part of the site in a series of lean-to structures, the proposed design is roughly the same foot print size. By condensing the service areas, the design maximizes the habitable spaces which opens out to the garden area in the south whilst trying to capture direct sun light from the north.
